There are many rules in other kind of sports, but none change as much as the NASCAR Rule books. I bet when the Busch Series started, the book was a mere 50 pages. Now it appears to be 200 pages long. I mean that is so much money that they are wasting on running the Busch Series.
With all of those rule changes many Busch teams that couldn't find sponsorship had to close its doors or not run at all in 2002. One of the teams affected with the sponsorship bug was BACE Motorsports, but they closed only down only the #74 team and ran the #33 car half the year without sponsorship.
With a new rule change happening last week, NASCAR is finally listening to everyone. If you want to keep teams in NASCAR make it affordable. Why can't CART or some of those other series try that?
NASCAR should try and make some of these cost cutting moves for Winston Cup also. Many Busch teams, are teams that get a cup regular at $200,000 for 14 races and they get a non marketable sponsor. Winston Cup teams match everything up, money with money. Maybe that’s why the Busch Series has the best racing out there. Although, you got to love those Craftsman Trucks.
With the series on the brink of having mostly part time teams, NASCAR has to get it back to full time teams. About 25% of the fields at all Cup races are Cup regulars. And at the tracks that Cup isn't with the Busch Series about 30% of the field are of Late Model drivers that want a try at the BGN. Why do they pick the Busch Series? It's because of the non-Cup presence, and they take the money away.
Getting back to my point, money, sponsorship, and car manufacture changes have made the Busch Series a mess. Let's hope that NASCAR sees this problem and kind of stirs the pot back to the good old days were we had full fields of Busch Series cars. Not a Cup drivers practice day whipping on the poor Busch Series drivers. Make some more money rule changes NASCAR.
