A tribute to Andy Kirby...

On Thursday night, NASCAR lost another star. Not this time at NHIS, but on a highway. Andy Kirby was riding his Harley-Davidson when it struck a tree. Kirby was pronounced dead later in the night. On the bright side Kirby was just beginning his career in the Busch Series. Earlier this year Kirby recorded his career best finish, 6th spot.

Even though Kirby was a nobody on the racetrack he was one of the drivers that was quiet and he really loved the sport of NASCAR. Over Kirby's career he has run in the BGN and CTS series. His goal was to run Winston Cup, but that never happened. Kirby ran for the #27 Brewco Motorsports team in 2000. Then Kirby decided to run for different teams in the 2001 season. He loged into 2-3 teams during the 2001 season. He ran for Jay Robinson racing for a while then went to Moy Racing for some races and then ran for his family owned ride.

Then in 2002 Kirby decided to run for the #77 car and part time for the #49 car. He ran a bunch of races in the 2002 season and was looking to finish in the top 30 in points. For many of you out there you are wondering why would someone want to run in the top 30 in points? Well Kirby wasn't a full time driver. He always wanted to but some how no one would hire him.

Even though we haven't lost any drivers on the tracks in NASCAR's top 3 divisions, I think this tragedy will pull NASCAR closer together and hopefully the teams that Andy drove for will withdraw there enter if Andy was supposed to run those cars in memory of Andy.

All of us here at Suite101.com send our condolences to the Kirby family after this horrible accident. We all are one big family here in the NASCAR family and we will pull together and remember Andy and what he has done as a NASCAR Busch Series driver. He will be greatly missed by all of the racing community.

Please stay tuned to Suite101.com for any updates like tributes were to send card and any news about who will drive the #77 car, any statements by Jay Robinson or any NASCAR drivers will be reported on the Bulletin part of my Topic page.

God Speed Andy Kirby.
