Safety Issue brought back after Purvis' wreck

Injuries like the one Jeff Purvis had are the thing that most NASCAR Busch Series drivers hate the most. It's sometimes happen to the best drivers, and sometimes affects the way a driver races from that day of the crash on. Even though, some may believe that the H.A.N.S. device and the Hutchen's device do help the driver's injuries. Even though NASCAR officials made the head and neck restrains mandatory for all NASCAR competitors, these injuries do happen. In my opinion, NASCAR has done a great job of keeping the drivers safe. For example in 2001 Elton Sawyer was driving the #98 Starter Ford at Atlanta and wrecked his car. He got T-boned and was able to climb from his car and walk away. He was wearing the H.A.N.S. device. Another classic example is at the 2002 Aaron's 312 at Talladega Speedway, Johnny Sauter was in mid air after getting hit from Scott Riggs. He walked away from the accident. Now to let everyone know what happened if you haven't read Jayski.com or didn't watch the Stacker 2 200 on TV. Jeff Purvis was ahead of Greg Biffle. Purvis blew an engine going into corner #2 at Greg was running second. Purvis' car slid into the wall and came off the wall and Biffle ran into some of Purvis' oil and spun and hit Purvis in the driver's cockpit area. Purvis wasn't moving so NASCAR threw the red flag so the safety crews could use the whole track to save Jeff Purvis' life. Purvis was taking out of the car by the 'Jaws of Life' and was put on a stretcher and was taking to the infield care center. Then Purvis was taking to Lehigh Valley Medical Center in Allentown, PA. As of 5/22/02 he is now in serious but stable condition. I want to send my get-well wishes to the Purvis family. Not only will Jeff Purvis be missing races; his personality will be too. To Greg Biffle and Jeff Purvis get well and hope to see you two running NASCAR Busch Series races soon. Greg Biffle was taking to the hospital and was diagnose with a separated shoulder. Although Biffle will run the CarQuest 300 at Lowe's Motor Speedway, Jeff Purvis won't be running it. Kevin Lepage will drive the #37 Timber Wolf Chevy at Lowe's Motor Speedway. So really, NASCAR did do a great job with the safety devices and I wish Jeff Purvis well.
