Stefanik on the Unemployment Line Again

The #90 team owned by GTS Motorsports/Fred DiMaggio has closed up shop, leaving our friend Mike Stefanik without a job again. Out of 8 races, his best finish was a 13th. This is just a situation where the team never gelled. Stefanik will be back. I predict he'll have another ride by Jan. 15th. Here's a link to NASCAR info on his former Busch car: Stefanik

Not As Easy As It Looks

Mr. Washington and Mr. Irving have just discovered with Cal Wells has also learned recently - don't come into the top tiers of stock car racing and think you're going to show everyone a thing or two. The #50 (was it Dr. Pepper sponsored?) team of Washington/Irving will be auctioned off on Jan. 16th. Here's the auction site if anyone's interested: Gavel Auctions
The #70 Murphy Motorsports team is being auctioned off on the 5th.

Dr. Pepper Picks Another

Dr. Pepper inked a new contract with the Carroll Racing team for the next three seasons. Their current driver, Bobby Hamilton Jr., is expected to stay with the team. In their 2000 rookie season, they started all the races (really an impressive feat considering the high benchmark they had to meet), got 10 top 10 starts, eight top 15, a fourth place finish at Talledega, and a pole at Homestead. Pretty darn good for a new team. Bobby Jr. raced in the Slim Jim Series and the Southern All Stars. He gave ARCA a shot in 1998, getting five top 5 finishes in his first six races. is it just me, or do they look younger and younger every year? In this picture, he looks about 14!

Magic Shoes Has Yet Another Crew Chief
George DeBidart, owner of Innovative Motorsports, has chosen another crew chief for the #48 Goulds Pumps Chevy driven by Mike McLaughlin. Gere Kennon, the man of the moment, is no spring chicken. He won back to back Busch championships in 1983 and '84 with Sam Ard, and helped Ron Hornaday get two wins and 5th place finsih in the BGN Series in 2000. He's worked for DEI, Roush, Junior Johnson, and Brett Bodine. I hope he can help Mike out, the poor guy really had a rough time this past season. He finished outside the top 10 in points for the first time since 1994, 24th. Mike's a really talented driver, I know if they can get the right guy to help him, he'll make a stunning comeback. Check out Mike's fan club page for what DeBidart, McLaughlin, and Kennon have to say about their prospects. McLaughlin Fan Page
