End of the 2000 Season

Well, we've come to the end of another season of Busch racing. Every time I hear "Bush" mentioned on TV, I hope they're talking about racing - but no such luck.

There were a lot of ups and downs for many teams throughout the year. Teams that I thought had a shot at putting it all together fell by the wayside. Others that I had doubts about did quite well. At least I don't gamble, because I would have lost my shorts.

GRUBB Motorsports is Closing Up Shop for Good

Unfortunately, Grubb Sr. and his son Wayne weren't able to round up sponsorship for the 2001 season, which left them high and dry. Grubb Sr. said, "Finding a sponsor was our biggest goal going into 2001, but the few deals we had working fell through, and in this day and age of auto racing, you can't really survive without the support of a sponsor." This means that Kevin (the younger brother) will continue to drive for Brewco Motorsports, where he's been since 1998, and Wayne will go back to Late Model Stock Racing.

I never did hear how the brothers' laser eye surgery turned out. They had it done all the way back on January 10th.

As for Kevin's results in the #37 Timberwolf Chevy this year, he had several top ten finishes, including two in the later half of the season: AutoLite/Fram 250 : 5th, and MBNA.com 200 : 7th. He also placed a solid 13th in the final standings, which is nothing to sneeze at. Wayne didn't finish quite so well, 40th, but I'm sure he and his brother will work together so they both see success in the top series.

Speaking of which, did you notice how many brother/brother father/son combos there were in last week's Cup race? I think it was at least a third or more of the field...

Dick Trickle is Moving On

Mr. Trickle will be leaving the #5 Busch car owned by Jimmy Spencer. I think this was probably brought on by two things...a clash of two very strong personalities, and the fact that their primary sponsor, Schneider Trucking, announced in October that they would be leaving the team at the end of the year too. I think Trickle is a prime example of a solid, talented, dependable driver. Like everyone else, he wants to be in a situation where his skills can be utilized to their fullest - not like D.W.'s last sad season.
