Busch News for Sept 7, 2000McLaughlin Expresses His Thanks As many of you already know, Mike McLaughlin's father, Tom, passed away on September 1st. Mike recently sent out a statement thanking friends and fans for their condolences, "The support of everyone in the NASCAR garage, Motor Racing Outreach and all of our friends has been incredible the last few weeks," McLaughlin said. "It's been a really tough time for our entire family, my father was a great man that taught me a lot about life and being a hard worker. He left us with a lot of special memories. Hopefully I can go out here soon and win a race for him." Mike's next race will be the Autolite Platinum 250 at Richmond International Raceway this Friday.
Who Doesn't Love New Tools? The Porter-Cable #4 Pontiac will have a new paint scheme for the Richmond race. The car will display the new Cordless Tiger Saw on its hood and quarter panels. A few specs on the Tiger Saw, provided by Porter-Cable: The new cordless Tiger Saw (model 9837 as a stand-alone unit) offers a 470 watt motor with a variable speed range between 0 and 2,900 strokes per minute (SPM). Its counterbalance mechanism minimizes vibration to ensure a smoother operation. Touting a compact 16" design, the model 9837 fits in more hard-to-reach places than any other competitive unit on the market. The recip saw's exclusive Quik-Change blade clamp allows the user to change the blade in less than four seconds. Whitman explained, "Simply turn the spring-loaded clamp, remove the worn blade, and drop in a new one." The unique rust-resistant clamp accepts a blade in the upside-down position (for making upward cuts) as well as the standard position (for downward cuts). Pretty cool, eh?
Hut Stricklin Keeps On Truckin' Stricklin has managed to claw his way back up into the Winston Cup ranks, and seems to be making some headway. He has a lot of determination, and has never quit despite being shuffled back and forth between series and scrambling for rides. Right now, he's racing for the Hills Bros. Coffee team. During practice for the Pepsi 400 at Michigan, Hut and his team were 18th fastest. He had some trouble during round one qualifying, but was fastest during the second round. (Which means he and the team get to be in the Bud Shootout next February at Daytona!) he had engine troubles during the race, causing him to drop out, but you know he'll be back. This is one guy that just won't quit.
