Busch Wrapup for July 15, 2000Changes Again Well, the #0 Alumni Motorsports Team has lived up to their name and started right back at ground zero again. They've released Lance Hooper as driver AND Mike Steurer as crew chief. This comes after Lance pulled off a 2nd place qualifying effort at Dover. Why? Who knows these days? It seems like if the driver and crew chief don't produce immediate results, out they go. I wonder if the owners of these teams realize that lessons learned in the business world apply to racing as well. Namely, teams take time to come together and operate at full potential!!! And they replaced Lance with who? Johnny Rumley. EVERYBODY knows him, right?(not!) He's had great success so far...remember the Food City Ford? Well, I guess most people probably don't. I have no beef with Johnny, personally. He's a great short-track racer, and he may be able to do some good things for the team. There are two things that make me wonder, though. First, he qualified 18th at Nashville. Not a stellar performance, but fairly solid. However, with the way things have been going with the team, will Rumley even get the chance to get familiar with the team and produce results? Tomczak and Lachey, why don't you get a clue already? This isn't football! Please, do us all a favor and keep Rumley around for a while. Speaking of Changes John Monsam has also been released as crew chief for Mike McLaughlin's #48 car. I think this makes the third crew chief for them this season. I'll bet no one knows which direction is up!! Another Stinker ALLTEL has informed Herzog Motorsports, owner of the #92 car of Jimmie Johnson, that they will not be a sponsor next year. They plan on switching to Team Penske in 2001, with a car driven by Ryan Newman. Cup or Busch is still to be determined. This is another sad story of giving up before really letting a situation develop to its fullest potential. Jimmie seemed to struggle in the first part of the season, but I think he's really catching on now. Take a look at his results:
