I find this kind of interesting. They definitely are trying to make the best of the roller coaster season they've had so far.
Santerre Pinch-Hitter Extraordinaire Again EVENT: AUTO CLUB 300 TRACK: CALIFORNIA SPEEDWAY FONTANA, Calif. DATE: APRIL 29 2000 FONTANA, Calif. (April 29, 2000) - Pinch-hitters are a crucial part of any baseball team. They can decide a game's outcome at any time in the late innings. Driver Andy Santerre has become the Team Rensi Motorsports Lance Snacks Chevrolet team's "pinch-hitter extraordinaire" this season. Santerre once again turned in a solid performance Saturday, finishing 21st in a substitute role for Kenny Wallace in the NASCAR Busch Series, Grand National Division Auto Club 300 at California Speedway. For the third time this season, Santerre was forced into duty when Kenny Wallace failed to qualify the Lance Chevrolet in the top-25 on Thursday (Wallace was 40th). Because his status in the Winston Cup point standings, Wallace is not eligible for a Busch Series provisional. "Sometimes, it's easier to be the relief guy," Santerre said. "There's not quite as much pressure on you. The primary guy digs a hole, and the relief guy has to come in and do the best he can. "With Kenny and I, we work this thing as a team. I support him and he supports me. When I do have to get in, Kenny is my coach. He's a great race car driver. We're just having a hard time getting it on these big tracks. "We had a good day. We stayed out of the wrecks and we did what we had to do and came out of here with a 21st place finish. Hopefully that will keep the Lance Snacks Chevrolet near the top of the owner points. I ran as hard as I could, I had a good time, and we came out of here with a decent finish." Santerre took the first provisional and started from the 37th position. The first 25 laps were unspectacular, but Santerre was able to make his way to 29th place by lap 24. He was 26th prior to the race's second caution when he pitted for four tires and fuel, but left the pits in 31st place. The Lance Chevrolet stayed on the lead lap and Santerre made his way up to the 20th position by lap 86, but another tough pit stop on lap 87 bumped him back to 37th. He lost a lap to the leaders in the process. Once again, however, Santerre showed his resiliency, and by lap 134, he was up to 24th again. He made his way up to 21st by the race's final caution Go To Page: 1 2
