Busch Comments for March 22, 2000

Disclaimer: My usual optomistic and loyal mood has disappeared temporarily, at least where the Busch Series is concerned. All comments are intended as tongue-in-cheek and we will return to our regular programming shortly.

I'm in a bad mood where the Busch Series is concerned. Why? It's all because of the Aaron's 312 at Atlanta, which left a bad taste in my mouth. I turned on the TV to find that the race was being finished UNDER THE LIGHTS. Wow! Cool! Then I was treated to about 20 laps of Mark Martin going around and around the track. Hardly any focusing on battles back in the pack. Just "Oh, is Kenseth gaining a little bit on Mark? Is the lapped traffic going to get our leader?" Not hardly. Winning by 14.147 seconds is hardly spellbinding. I also would like to say that Martin's team wasn't fooling anyone with the "There MIGHT be something wrong with the engine, we're not sure if we're going to make it." Yeah, right. What a pathetic attempt at adding a little FAKE drama to another Mark Martin Invitational race. I can't wait until that thief finally leaves the Busch Series at the end of the season.

Get Rid of the Dead Wood

BUCKSHORT Jones swears that unless he gets some help from Pontiac, he's moving over to Chevy before the season is even over.

Here's more on the story from Upstate.com:

****************************************************************
Jones was the top finisher among Pontiac drivers in the SunCom 200 race Saturday at the Darlington Raceway, but that was good for only 25th place. His complaint is that the aerodynamics of the Pontiacs cause considerably less downforce in the front of the car when compared to Chevrolets and Fords.

"Pontiacs don't even come close to competing against the Fords or Chevrolets right now," Jones said. Hut Stricklin was the next-highest Pontiac finisher Saturday in 26th place. Rich Bickle was 29th, Jason Leffler 37th and Mike Borkowski 43rd.

"There wasn't a Pontiac out there that ran good today," Jones said. "They got killed all day long." Pontiac drivers also struggled in time trials Friday. Bickle qualified 33rd for the race, while Jones and Stricklin had to take provisionals to make the field. Jeff Purvis and Jason Jarrett were among those who were left out because they were too slow. Borkowski, with a 19th-place qualifying effort, was the only Pontiac in the top 30. "Look at Jeff Purvis," Jones said. "He's an awesome driver and he went home."
