The Bi-Weekly Busch Review for Feb 28, 2000Ho-Hum Is it just me, or does the season seem to be starting out kind of slow? And what's with all the empty seats at Rockingham? The very first Winston Cup race I attended was last year's Rockingham spring race, and that place was packed! THey gave you exactly enough room on the metal bleachers to fit your butt and not much else. God help you if you were sitting next to a...well-endowed person, like we were. Well, we had a good time anyway. Maybe the fans are finally getting tired of getting gouged heavily in the wallet by NASCAR. Maybe this is actually a forecast of an impending downtrend in the U.S. economy. I hope not, but we'll see. Fans will always be fans, even if we have to go back to grassroots local racing. New Rookie, of a Sort Here's something from Racing Diva.com: "I can't tell you how excited I am right now about having Max in our lives," Mike McLaughlin said. "The last thing I wanted to do was get on that airplane for Las Vegas on Wednesday night with the possibility of missing the opportunity of supporting Katie through the birth of our son." And something from his PR group: With the clock winding down for Goulds Pumps NASCAR Busch Series driver Mike McLaughlin's departure for the Sam's Town 300 in Las Vegas, all fingers were crossed that the Stork would make a special delivery prior to Mike heading out west. The wish came true for Mike and wife Katie on Tuesday at 8:35pm at The University Hospital in Charlotte. Katie delivered a healthy 7 pound 6 ounce baby boy, Michael Thomas McLaughlin. Max, as he will be called, measured 19 ¾ inches long. Max is the first child between Mike and Katie. The couple have been married for 15 months. Katie has two children, Manning and Hannah Gregory, from a previous marriage. After a full day with Max on Wednesday, Mike will depart on the last flight of the day for Las Vegas. Don't be surprised to see a proud father sharing photos of his new son between practice sessions at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
