Winston Cup The WC series had a weekend off. Several of the drivers and teams took a rest, and some of them used the time to partake in other racing venues. Jimmy Spencer was in Dover for the IRL race, and decided to race in the 200 lap Busch North race. He started at the rear of the pack, and won the race by almost a 4 second lead. Dale Jarrett was a contender in the BGN race in Fontana, Ca., until he had to drop out with mechanical problems. Michael Waltrip also ran the race, and had problems, finishing two laps down in 23rd position. Dick Trickle also had to drop out with mechanical problems. Ernie Irvin ran the truck race Saturday, and fought his way to a second place finish. Michael Waltrip also ran the truck race, but didn't have Ernie's luck. It was reported last week that Jerry Nadeau lost his ride in the Bill Elliott/Dan Marino car. There's no word yet who will get that ride permanently. Kevin Lepage is going to drive for Roush Racing, probably taking the seat in the Prime Star car. There's no word as to what Ted Musgrave is going to be driving, or when he will be leaving Roush Racing. Steve Park is slated to be back in Dale Earnhardt's #1 car when they race at the Brickyard, August 1st.. It has been speculated that Darrell Waltrip will drive for the team that he sold last spring, probably also starting with the Brickyard race. I'll fill in more details on this as they become available past the rumor stage. The WC teams will be in the Poconos next weekend to tackle to tri-oval for the second time this season.
The No Fear Challenge
Craftsman Truck The 700+ horsepower pick-up trucks got to show off their stuff Saturday on the California Speedway. Any race on this Penske owned 2 mile super speedway is fun to watch. The track opened last summer, getting great reviews from fans and motorsports teams. Jack Sprague managed to pour on the coals and take the win, after a spin-out in the first half of the race from a collision with Mike Bliss. Both drivers managed to stay away from the wall, sliding off the track through hundreds of feet of infield grass. This was Sprague's second win of the season, and the tenth of his career. Top ten order of finish:
