On top of the heap.

Anger, changes, donations, and the MBNA 400 from Dover Downs, Delaware.

Anger and Disappointment.........

Once again, compassion and logic are taking a back seat to avarice. When the sanctioning body made the decision to hold the postponed New Hampshire race on the day after Thanksgiving, they angered just about everyone involved in Winston Cup racing. The exception was the Bahre family, who own the New Hampshire track. The Bahres are aghast at the thought of having to refund the cost of 100,000 race tickets. Maybe they should lobby the government to bail them out, like the airlines have. Not a problem, our nation's taxpayers can foot the bill, we always do.

I received an E-mail from a fan who has tickets for the New Hampshire race. They decided that they didn't want to travel that distance in holiday traffic to brave possible inclement weather, and contacted the ticket office for a refund. They were informed that the track has a disclaimer, and does not have to issue a refund under these circumstances. The fan is out $360 for the tickets. I wonder how many other fans will suffer the same plight?

Mike Helton, NASCAR's president, made the comment that this is the time for families to come together. Then he rips the families apart by taking away one of their most sacred holidays of the year. Thousands of people, TV personnel, vendors, racing personnel, and fans, will be adversely affected by the November 23rd race date. Hundreds of workers will have to be at the track on Thanksgiving Day setting up for the race . Teams will have to hold their practice sessions Thursday to get their racecars tuned and their set-ups dialed in.

Qualifying for the race had already been called off, and the starting grid was set according to the point's systems. It remains to be seen if the starting grid will adhere to the points as they were at the time qualifying was canceled, or if the grid will be set by the points in effect at the time of the race. I would assume that the starting grid will remain as it is, but with NASCAR's penchant for indecision, one cannot really be sure of anything until the day it happens.

Changes Galore..........

The terrorist's attacks have brought about a lot of unwanted changes in our country. They have touched the lives of every single citizen across our nation, in one way or another. A lot of the freedoms and luxuries that we have become accustomed to taking for granted, are no longer viable to our security. As race fans, are going to have to get used to some major changes as well.
