Handwriting on the wall.....

Teresa wins again, Harvick's riding the Busch wave, and the Pocono 500.

YES!................ Teresa Wins Again

Hats off to Mrs. Teresa Earnhardt for her courage and tenacity! The woman had to take the witness stand amid hordes of TV cameras and media moguls to plead her case. I saw a clip of her testimony on the ABC news. I would like to think that the worst is over in this matter, but I would not bet the farm on it.

Also, hats off to Gov. Jeb Bush for his unyielding assistance in preparing and submitting a brief to the court on behalf of the Earnhardts. I hope the NASCAR/Earnhardt fans in Florida will remember him when he runs for re-election. It took a lot of courage for him to take a stance in a somewhat iffy constitutional issue.

I was pleased to hear that the Gainsville student newspaper, Independent Florida Alligator, is facing a lot of tough times because of their insistence in the Earnhardt autopsy photo matter. It was reported that some of their advertisers pulled out, and their circulation numbers have tumbled due to marketing problems. Vandalism and E-mail death threats to some of their editors have sent them the message to "Let Dale Earnhardt rest in peace!" I hope the same message is related to Websitecity! The Orlando Sentinel and the South Florida Sun Sentinel have also received threats. I do not condone threats, but I see nothing wrong with voicing displeasure through letters and E-mails.

Harvick Successful in Kentucky.........

Winston Cup driver and Busch series regular Kevin Harvick won the inaugural Busch race at the new Kentucky Speedway. I had mentioned a couple of weeks ago that he would not be able to defend his narrow points lead in the Busch series at Kentucky because he would be racing at Pocono. Apparently that was not the case! Harvick dominated the race, leading the last 129 laps of the 200-lap race.

As a result of his victory, Harvick now has a 122 point lead over second place Greg Biffle and a 188 point lead over third place driver and defending champion Jeff green. Biffle drove an outstanding race, starting from the 37th position to be a major factor in the race by finishing second. Green got caught up in a wreck with Jimmy Johnson, and finished 32nd.

Upon his arrival in Kentucky Saturday from his Cup duties at Pocono, Harvick was up against strong odds. His primary racecar had been wrecked in practice by Mike Bliss, and he had to resort to driving the No. 2 Richard Childress Racings'back-up racecar. There is rule that states that if a driver is in the top 25 in Cup points, he does not qualify for a provisional start in the Busch series. This put the pressure on Harvick to put forth a stellar qualifying effort in winning the 11th starting position. He's lucky not to have suffered any mechanical problems with the back-up racecar that had not been track tested.
