Gordon tames the monster, again.

Mother Nature and Winston Cup drivers rain on Dover's Busch race, and comments on the MBNA Platinum 400.

Busch or Cup?............ Cup Drivers Rout Dover Busch Race

I think it would be safe to assume that there is some hard feelings surrounding Saturday's MBNA 200 Busch race at Dover. The hard feelings were not only aimed at Mother Nature for the drenching that changed all of the schedules around, but also at the Winston Cup drivers. I have to agree with Darrell Waltrip, who commented from the announcers' booth in regards to the Cup driver's lack of respect for their Busch series counterparts.

The top ten finishers consisted with an equal amount of drivers from both series. Problem is, the top five were Cup drivers. Two of which, showed little regard for the Busch series regulars. Mike Skinner managed to wreck leader Bobby Hamilton Jr. as the race was entering its final laps. Hamilton had moved up the track, giving Skinner room to pass for the lead, as Skinner had gotten the nose of his racecar under Hamiltons. As the pass was being made, it was clear that Skinner moved up the track into Hamilton, wrecking him, and consequently taking him out of the race. Hamilton took his car to his pit stall, exited the racecar, and stomped off to the garage area, clearly upset. As the wreck was taking place, Jimmy Spencer capitalized on the mishap, diving to the inside, taking the lead and eventually winning the race.

The other Cup driver who's driving came under scrutiny was Matt Kenseth. In the closing laps Kenseth bumped Jimmy Johnson's No. 92 Excedrin Chevrolet out of his way exiting a corner and put him into the wall, taking Johnson out of the race. Waltrip once again made the comment from the announcer's booth that it was sad that these cup drivers were not showing any respect for their fellow Busch series racers.

To begin with, Matt Kenseth has never been known to be a "clean" racer, even when he was a regular in the Busch series before moving up to Cup. It appears that Skinner easily fits into the same category. Skinner was so taken up with emotion during the final laps of the race that he made his Cup teammate, Kevin Harvick, fight him for position. Harvick is a regular in the Busch series racing for valuable championship points. There's not that much money involved in a Busch race, it was clearly an ego trip for Skinner.
