When the parents returned, they were greeted by the police and arrested for child neglect. The children had already been removed from the room and were placed in the custody of the Division of Children and Family Services. The Associated Press story that I read on Dec. 12th claimed that the parents had pleaded no contest to the charges and were sentenced to six months in Jail. The children were reported to be in the care of relatives.
A social worker with Child Protective Services in Greensboro had testified at a hearing in August that the couple had a long history with North Carolina Social Services, and that he had received a report that the mother had taken a child with her while making a drug deal. A third child, 6 months old, was taken from the parents as a result of the conviction.
