Shawna Robinson........ Winston Cup Future?

I've always been a fan of Shawna Robinson and I was thrilled when she returned to racing in '99. A news update in the Winston Cup Scene entitled "Robinson Sets Sights On Cup" by Art Weinstein, reports that Michael Kranefuss hopes to put her in a Cup car if a sponsor can be found.

Shawna is driving the No. 8 Ford Taurus for Mayfield/Kranefuss Racing this season in the ARCA (Automobile Racing Club of America) Bondo/Mar-Hyde Series. She's racing a full schedule and is 8th in the points standings with 1 top five and 6 top tens out of 12 starts. In the Scene article, she claims she's disappointed with her standings. Well, that may be so, but other than the 7 drivers ahead of her, there are 42 drivers in the series that wish they were in her position.

Kranefuss hopes to enter her in 5 Cup races next season and do lots of cup testing at various tracks on the circuit. Then, he'd like to field her a car for the full Cup schedule in 2002. This is one of those times I wish I were really wealthy, I'd love to sponsor her car, she's a dedicated racer with lots of experience and determination. I doubt very seriously if Kranefuss will have a problem finding her a sponsor. Check out Shawna's web site and her write up on NASCAR Online with the links below.

Road Racing.......... Substitute Drivers

Some of my regular readers are probably hip to the fact that I really like road racing on the Cup circuit. I've been hoping that NASCAR would add another road racing track to the schedule, or that one of the new tracks being built would be a road course. But, I guess that's not to be for the present time, or the near future.

When it comes to racing, I think road courses separate the men from the boys. You've all heard folks that aren't into racing say, "Any idiot can drive around in circles, what's the big deal?" Of course, we all know they don't know what they're talking about, there's lots more to it than just driving around in circles on an oval track. But, a road course demands the ultimate in racing skills, which includes car handling and racing strategy.
