Restrictor Plate Racing? - Race 17

Earnhardt still hates restrictor plate racing, Mark Martin's Viagra car, and the (Ho-Hum) Pepsi 400........

Restrictor Plates......... Dale Earnhardt's Comments

Dale Sr. hates restrictor plate racing. He's been very vocal about it in the past, and on the eve of the Firecracker 400, he was fired up on the subject again. I found a story at CNNSI where was quoted as saying, "I've heard some drivers saying, 'We're going too fast at Charlotte, we're going to fast here.' If you're not a racecar driver, and not a racer, stay home. Get out of the racecar if you've got feathers on your legs or butt."

YES! My sentiments exactly! Ol' Dale hit the nail right on the head this time. There's other things NASCAR could do to inhibit high speeds. How about using the 500 series carburetor? It would be like running a Cup racecar with a Busch engine. At least drivers would be able to race, they wouldn't all be bunched up in a 'fast train.'

Dale was also quoted as saying, "Are they going to pull the insurance if we run over 200 MPH? I'm just saying we need to grow up here and decide if we're going to race or what we're going to do. Right now we're not racing. We're just existing on the track together." Dale went on to say, "I think all the drivers and teams are frustrated with the way we have to race here. Have you heard a positive comment from anyone? I'm not condemning anybody. I wish there was another solution. I don't think anyone is happy doing what we're doing."

Roush Racing and Pfizer...... Martin's Viagra Racecar

Mark Martin is going to have to learn that he's now going to be the butt of a lot of Viagra jokes. I've already heard a couple, along with some derisive comments, but I guess that just goes with the territory. At any rate, we all know Valvoline's leaving as primary sponsor of the No. 6 car at the end of the season, and it has become official that Pfizer took over their spot at Roush Racing. It's been reported that they're coming up with 14 million to start things out for 2001. That's a lot of money! More than twice than what some major teams were getting a couple of years ago. Then there's the 20 million deal with Hendrick and Dupont? No wonder the single car teams are biting the dust. It's just some more asphalt in the road to "Pay for View" racing, coming your way, just wait and see!
