Pit Road Tire Rules .......

The New Rule

Starting with the Martinsville race, teams must pick up the right side tires from their pit boxes while servicing their racecars. If tires are left in the outside half of the pit box, and they impede the progress of another racecar, NASCAR can issue a penalty at their discretion.

Some of the drivers have been complaining that a few teams have been leaving the tires on Pit Road to purposely cause a problem for their competitors. This is something that can't really be proven, but human nature certainly is capable of it. If this was the case, it will be stopped now, or will it? If a team's entry is two or three laps down, what do they have to lose by getting a fifteen second penalty? Maybe the driver for the team in the next pit stall bumped them and put them out of the race last week. Maybe they want him to have some bad luck this week? So, we'll leave our tires there for him to run into, and see how he likes those apples! Human nature. Sometimes reality is unreal!

A. J. Foyt ..........

Still Recycling Drivers

Foyt gets rid of Mike Bliss, used subs for a couple of weeks, then hires Rick Mast to pilot the No. 14 Conseco entry. Bliss lost the driver's job with Foyt because he wasn't qualifying the racecar. So now, Foyt's new hire doesn't make the Martinsville race. The only thing Foyt is doing on the Cup circuit this year, is creating amusement. At least I think it's amusing, probably he doesn't. I doubt if the people from Conseco think it's amusing either.

With me, the amusement goes back to his statement last fall about not hiring "recycled drivers." By the time Foyt gets done stumbling around this year, maybe there will be a "recycled" team for sale.

Rookie Report ..........

Dale Jr. Bests Kenseth

Dale Earnhardt Jr's win at Texas last week put him ahead of Matt Kenseth in the Raybestos Rookie of the Year points battle, but not by much. Here are the point's standings after 7 races:

  1. Dale Earnhardt Jr.,   77
  2. Matt Kenseth,   72
  3. Stacy Compton,   59
