Park wins pole, New Cup winner in Busch, Rookie watch, and the Food City 500 from Bristol, Tennessee.
Park Wins Pole........... First Pole For Dale Earnhardt Inc.
Steve Park is a happy camper! While shattering Rusty Wallace's qualifying record at Bristol, he won Dale and Teresa Earnhardt their first pole as car owners. I previously wrote about this season being a "do or die" time for Steve, a fact he alluded to in a pre-season interview. It appears that he won't lose his ride for lack of trying. Don't rule out the possibility of the No. 1 Pennzoil car sitting in Victory Lane before the end of the season.
Marlin Wins Busch Race........ Cheez-It 250
Winston Cup veteran Sterling Marlin won the second Busch race of his career in a racecar he was used to driving, the orange UT entry he placed 4th in last August at Bristol. I've always been a Sterling Marlin fan, and I'm happy to see him win a race. Regular Busch Driver Dave Steele hit the wall in Friday's practice, and apparently lost his confidence because he didn't have any experience at Bristol, so Sabco decided to put Sterling in the car. This was impromptu news for Sterling, but he certainly made the best of it.
Second place finisher Jeff Green grumbled about the Cup drivers spoiling the party for the Busch regulars. He didn't seem like a happy camper during his interview. Cup drivers have now taken all six of this seasons Busch Series events, along with most of the top money, and valuable points. I expect to see this continue until the two series split up to race at different venues for the weekend. They're only going to be split from Cup venues seven times in their 32 race schedule. What does that tell you?
Rookie Watch............ After 5 races.......
All of the pre-season hype about the "star-studded" rookie class of 2000 has fallen by the wayside. As we expected, the two top rookies from the best teams with the most help are holding their own, most of the rest seemed to have fallen by the wayside along with the hype.
Raybestos Rookie of the Year Points:

Dale Earnhardt Jr.,   49
Stacy Compton,   43
Dave Blaney,   38
