Viagra sponsors Eel River Racing, Dale Sr. has surgery, new crew chief for Jeff Gordon, driver of the decade, and NASCAR Families, Part 3.
Viagra's Coming to NASCAR......... Eel River Racing
Pfizer Inc. has joined Eel River Racing and will sponsor the No 27 Viagra Pontiac that will be driven by Winston Cup newcomer Jeff Fuller. Jeff will join an already star studded rookie class for the 2000 season, making things a little more interesting in the Raybestos Rookie of the Year points race. Rusty Wallace, Bobby Labonte, and Mark Martin will also participate in Pfizer's "Tune up for Life" sponsorship, that centers on men's health issues. Read the story   here   at NASCAR Online.
Earnhardt's Surgery a Success......... Healing For Daytona
We all knew about Mark Martin's back surgery, but Dale Earnhardt Sr.'s surgery wasn't publicized much. Dale had ruptured a vertebrae back in March of last season, and it had to be taken care of. My wife had that same surgery a couple of years ago, it isn't an easy one. It takes a good two months to get back on track, and then, you're not at one hundred percent for at least four months. Read about the surgery   here .
Ring Around the Crew Chief........ Gordon Gets Another One
Revolving Crew Chiefs? I thought Brian Whitesell was doing a good job, at least he won two races with Gordon, after Evernham left. That gives Whitesell a pretty good average as crew chief. So, they hired Robbie Loomis, who has spent the last nine years with Petty Enterprises. Whitesell will be the team manager. This means that Jeff will be starting the Daytona 500 with a new set-up. Read more about it   here .
Driver of the Decade..... Earnhardt or Gordon?
A reader poll in the NASCAR Winston Cup Scene, one that I didn't participate in, asked for votes on the driver of the decade. It was about as close a call as you can get without having a tie, and Gordon got the nod. This is a story at the   NASCAR Online   site that's filled with stats and other great information about, guess who? Mark Martin got the votes for third place. Poor Mark, I don't think it's any consolation to be top runner-up for the 90's, but that's pretty much how it turned out. I hope Mark's back surgery will play a small part in his racing career, and he bounces back in full force for the 2000 season!
