New Race Track ......... Coming To Northeast US

Where? That's any one's' guess. When you have people like Bill France, Bruton Smith, and Donald Trump nosing around for a place to build a racetrack, it's liable to turn up anywhere. You can bet they aren't going to build a short track either. Although, I think we'll see one built again in the future under a mile in length. A three quarter mile is a good short track for the Winston Cup machines. I didn't used to like watching short track races, I thought it was dumb to put such a powerful machine on a short track. But, I learned that short track racing is part of the whole Winston Cup picture, a necessity in keeping in line with tradition, and a tool to hone a race driver's skills. Check out the story on the new race track here .

Sports Illustrated........ Centuries Best Driver

Sports Illustrated has gathered 40 of NASCAR's "insiders" and had them vote on the 10 best men to get behind the wheel of a stock car. The top pick, and the man voted to be the "Driver of the Century" was David Pearson. The names on the list of the 40 insiders included Bill France, Dale Earnhardt, Ned and Dale Jarrett, Junior Johnson, Cotton Owens, and Lee and Richard Petty. There were other polls put to the vote of the infamous insiders. Check out the story and see who the 40 insiders are here .

Silly Season Isn't over........ News Update.....

Kenny Irwin's driving for Sabco, Cheerios is taking over STP's entry, and where is Joe Nemechek going to end up? There's still a lot of movement on the Winston Cup scene. Read all about it here .

The Flock, Hutcherson, and Bouchard families. People that helped to make NASCAR the great sport it is today.

The Flocks..... Bob, Ethel, Fonty, and Tim

The flock brothers originally came out of Fort Payne, AL. All three are reported to have driven in the inaugural NASCAR race in Charlotte in '49. Ethel Flock Mobley raced in two events with her three brothers. No other family in NASCAR history has had three brothers in the hall of fame, and no other family in NASCAR history has ever had four siblings racing on the track at the same time. Tim Flock reminisces, "There were nine of us kids, and about all of us were daredevils. One of the girls was a wingwalker in the airshows back in the '30s. I feel sure we inherited being adventuresome from our father. Carl Lee Flock was great at doing tricks on bicycles and he walked tightropes. He had an incredible sense of balance. I think Bob, Fonty, and me got that from him, and I truly believe this helped to make us good race car drivers."
