Talledega II

Winston Cup cars of the future, 2000 schedule released, new Junior Johnson book, The Winston 500 at Talledega, Alabama.

Dodge and Toyota.... Coming soon?

The news about Ray Everham's future team fielding Chrysler products is unfolding. So far though, he's the only one that's been reported to be dealing with them to race their Dodges in the 2001 season. With the problems that the 2000 Taurus and Monte Carlo are having, getting certified by NASCAR, I wouldn't look for a Dodge racer in 2001. It sounds good, but the time frame doesn't seem practical. A lot of team owners say that they won't even talk to Chrysler, they're committed to their present makes. Richard Petty say's he'll talk to anybody, to see what they have to offer, even Volkswagen, if they were to call. Maybe Richard is being honest about the situation, as he can certainly afford to be. The others are just covering their behinds to keep their present deals out of jeopardy.

According to an article in the Winston Cup Scene, Busch Series team owner James Finch has built a Dodge Intrepid race car. He wanted to see how it would look and race, so he built one. They feel they will have the jump on everyone else by doing this on their own. They plan on testing the car soon.

Then there's the continuing talk of Toyota wanting to move up from the Dash Series to higher levels of racing. The main thing they would have to do is build a pushrod V-8 in order to meet NASCAR's specifications. NASCAR would also have to change their rule requiring "domestic" cars, if foreign cars would be allowed to enter the picture. Don't expect this anytime soon, unless Toyota decides to dump an unbelievable amount of funds NASCAR's way.

2000 Winston Cup Schedule.... No Surprises

In case you missed it on NASCAR Online, they released next season's schedule on October 12th. There weren't any surprises on it, and as usual, it's being called tentative, subject to change. The important aspect of the schedule that is missing? They didn't list which television network will be airing each race. The big TV deal that NASCAR bragged about so loudly, is still a mystery. To me, that's the most important part of the schedule. What channel will the race be on, and what time? Anyway, you can check out the schedule here .
