CART & IRL Invade Winston Cup.... Sharp & Pruett?
We've all heard over the past few years how Winston Cup (WC) and NASCAR in general is constantly changing. Well, it's changing alright. It remains to be seen if it's changing for the better or worse. The upcoming 2000 season is certainly going to be interesting. New WC owner Cal Wells announced that his driver in the No. 32 Tide sponsored Ford will be veteran CART driver Scott Pruett. New team, new owner, new driver, no WC experience? I'll bet you ten to one, the veteran WC drivers will do all they can to stay out of their way!
Then, another story surfacing, concerns AJ Foyt. Every racing fan should know who AJ is. A former WC and Indy car driver, now an IRL owner, Foyt has made plans to get back into WC racing next season. He already has Conseco Inc. (Financial service provider) as a sponsor, has made a deal with GM to field a Pontiac Grand Prix and rumor has it he's considering Scott Sharp, one of his IRL drivers, to pilot his WC cars.
Tony Stewart Fined..... $5,000.00
Stewart broke rule 12-4 A, from the NASCAR Winston Cup Rule Book, and was fined for "actions detrimental to auto racing." I guess if you own or run an association, you can give down the word to the peons below, "fine this one, let that one go, slap the other one on the hand," etc.. As far as I'm concerned, that's about all of the sense it makes. There's no consistency to the interpretation of the so called "rule book." One guy can bump a crippled car off the track, and get penalized two laps. Another guy can bump the race leader off of the track on the last lap, go on and win the race, and get applauded for it. What it boils down to is this folks. There really are no rules. NASCAR has a vague list of offenses they manipulate to suit their own ideals, at the time of the infraction. Like it or lump it, that's the way it is!
