Indy 500 ?

Winston Cup rookie driver Tony Stewart is being sued by John Menard, owner of Team Menard on the Indy Racing Circuit. Stewart put together his own Indy team with two former Menard employees to field a car for this years Indianapolis 500, and Menard is claiming breach of contract, in order to keep Stewart from driving for another team. Stewart drives the No. 20 Home Depot Pontiac for Joe Gibbs Racing.

You might remember that another Joe Gibbs driver and former Indy racer decided to race at both the Indy 500 during the day and the Coca Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway at night. That would be the former Winston Cup rookie Robbie Gordon, who washed out of Winston Cup after having his momentum destroyed by being burned badly on the leg during a crash at the Indy 500. Robbie never made it to Charlotte, and was out of racing for quite a while before coming back to Winston Cup, and failing.

Kansas International Speedway ??

Don't count on it! Plans are being made to sell the name of the new speedway before it opens up in 2001. The speedway is being built by International Speedway Corporation. They are also building a track near Chicago, and are looking into purchasing property for a track in southern New York State. Up to this point, they claim they aren't interested in selling the names of their other speedways 1.7 million paid admissions last season.

Talledega... DieHard 500

Dale Earnhardt added another one to the win column, for a career total of 72. This was his first Winston Cup win since the Daytona 500 in February of 1997. He pulled his slingshot move on Rusty Wallace Saturday to win the IROC race on the last lap, so the Winston Cup win capped off his weekend perfectly. Dale had a strong car and was in contention for the win soon after starting the race in the 17th position.
