Skinner Keeps Win

Mike Skinner, winner of the Yellow Freight 300 Busch race at Atlanta last week, gets to keep his win. In the post race inspection, illegal cylinder heads were found in the engine of the No. 19 Yellow Freight car that Skinner was driving. NASCAR contends that the intake manifold air ports had been illegally modified to direct air flow. The sanctioning body took away the win, and fined the team $19,000.00, one of the stiffest fines in NASCAR history. An appeals commission decided on Wednesday that the penalty was too severe, and let Skinner have the win, and first place money, but upheld the stiff fine, saying illegal, is still illegal.

Mike Wallace Wins Truck Race

Mike Wallace won the Dodge Dealers 400 at Homestead Saturday. Mike drove the No. 52 truck for Ken Schrader last year in the Craftsman Truck Series. This was his first time at the wheel with the team ASE Ford owned by Marlene Smith. That's a great way to start a new job!

Bobby Labonte Fractures Shoulder

Bobby Labonte hit the wall in turn two while practicing for Saturdays Busch race. He hit some oil on the track, and the out of control car veered into the wall. The same thing happened in '95 on the same track, only it was the other shoulder that was broken. Now, he says he has shoulders that match. The tip of the Scapula was broken off, just like last time, causing his arm to be useless until the shoulder heals. Sad part of it is, Labonte was second in points, but it's early in the season, and hopefully he'll get back up there. Matt Kenseth qualified the No. 18 Interstate Batteries Winston Cup car in the 34th position. At the time of this writing, Labonte is going to try to make one lap in the car to garner any points that he can from the race.

Darlington ....... The TranSouth Financial 400

They are calling Jeff Burton "The Rain Man" following his win for the rain shortened Darlington race. Last year the first rain man was Rusty Wallace, year before that it was Jeff Gordon, and before that it was Sterling Marlin. I hate it when the rain ruins a race. They call the one in the lead at the time, the winner, but no one takes the checkered flag, so the way I see it, no one wins the race. Especially, with a car that isn't capable of winning a race. Burton's car was smashed up as the caution for rain was called, and he managed to make it to the finish line first with a car that had a bent right wheel that was toed out to the point that it wouldn't have been competitive to race. So, Burton becomes the "Rain Man," what more can I say.
