The Rock II
WIN! ...NASCAR CONTEST...Check it out here. The October winner's prize is on the way! October's answers were: By now, most of you have heard that Jeff Gordon has been crowned king again this year. He captured the championship a little before halfway through the race at the Rock. Then, is his usual style, he worked his way methodically towards the front with just a few laps remaining, and won his 12th race of this season. The TV interviews after the race were interesting. Mark Martin seemed dejected. He claimed that he isn't a good driver at that track, and stated that his teammate Jeff Burton, is a lot better driver than he is, at the Rock. If that's the case, where does that leave Jeff Gordon? They used three grooves at the Rock Sunday, and a lot of different lines entering corners. It's definitely a drivers track, and with the frontrunners, the outside and middle grooves were the most successful. The race leaders were able to use all three grooves, and gain considerable distance, until they had to race side by side while lapping cars. It really isn't that much different than a few of the other tracks, except for the abrasive surface. Dale Jarrett wasn't as dejected. He seemed in good spirits despite his medical problems. He said he was grateful to be in third place, and was going to race to stay there, next week at Atlanta. Bobby Hamilton was a happy camper, capturing another top ten finish, and Rusty Wallace is always happy with a top five finish.
The Busch Grand National Championship is still somewhat up in the air. Both Little E and Matt Kenseth had dismal runs, finishing 14th and 27th respectively. This leaves Little E with a 146 point lead, with two races left. Third place Mike McLaughlin is 392 points down, and out of the championship picture. Lots of shifting is expected within the top ten, as some positions are only separated by a few points.
