Gordon Does DaytonaNEW! ...NASCAR CONTEST...Check it out here. Jeff Gordon can't moan and groan about not winning a race during the months of October and November. At least not October anyway! Jeff won the July Daytona race and boosted his points lead over Mark Martin to 358 points, with only three races left. At this point, it doesn't look good for Martin. If Martin wins every race, all Gordon has to do is to place 37th or better to win the championship. Maybe Martin won't win any more races, we will be finding out within the next month or so. One note worth mentioning: If Gordon can get 12 more points ahead of Martin at Phoenix, he will clinch the title, for the fourth time in his career. The 40th win of Gordon's career was his 11th this season. No one has done that since Dale Earnhardt won 11 races in 1987. I wonder of the crowds booed Earnhardt because he won all the time? I would imagine that a race driver has a lot of things to think about, and worry about, while racing his peers for the big check that goes with the checkered flag. There has to be a lot of things on his mind. Now, it appears that the drivers will have to worry about their crew chiefs' health and safety during the race also. Can you imagine your crew telling you over the radio that the crew chief fell off the wall and broke his leg? Well, unfortunately, it happened to Wally Dallenbach's crew chief during the Daytona race. Tony Furr will no doubt take a lot of ribbing over this one, but is now in quite a lot of pain from surgery. Little E did it again in the Busch Grand National series. He won his seventh race this season at Gateway Int. Raceway, Saturday, outside of St. Louis. Little E is ahead in the championship battle for the Busch Crown by 102 points over Matt Kenseth, with three races left. They will have off next weekend, then will race at the North Carolina Speedway, in Rockingham. The Winston Cup drivers will be there that weekend also, so look for competition from them to make a difference with the points race.
