Talladega Dreaming
Getting back to the Fords, the No. 21 Wood Brothers Racing entry that won the pole didn't seem as if it could get out of its own way, while Mark Martin's No. 6 Roush Racing Ford was up there knocking at the door quite a few times during he event, with Jeff Burton in the No. 99 ford making a decent showing near the end of the event. The Robert Yates Racing entries weren't a factor in the event at all, if they thought they could win, they were just dreaming. There were a couple of Dodges flirting with the front pack during the event but the Chevrolets were, and are, the strongest in restriction plate racing. I'm wondering when the carping is going to begin that the Chevy's have the edge and the Fords and Dodges need some tweaking to be on an even keel. This seems to happen every season, and you can rest assured that Monday morning won't pass without a memo being sent to NASCAR from Roush Racing complaining about the Chevy dominance. The memo may also contain some grumbling about the DEI domination of restrictor plate racing. On the Dodge side, it's usually rusty Wallace who has an axe to grind in that respect, although of late Chip Ganassi Racing hasn't been too happy with NASCAR so they may stick in their two cents as well. Following the two Chevy's (C) of Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr. across the finish line were Kevin Harvick (C), Jimmy Johnson (C), Robby Gordon (C), Mark Martin (F), Jeff Burton (F), Casey Mears (D), Jamie McMurray (D), and Bobby Labonte (C). The top ten starters and how they finished:
