Bill Davis Toyota, News Bits, and the MBNA 400 from Dover, Delaware.
Bill Davis Toyota ............ The split between Bill Davis Racing and the Dodge division of Daimler/Chrysler leaves lots of unanswered questions, most of which will probably go unanswered for quite some time. Neither one of the principals involved are saying squat about the split other than the Dodge boys statement that Davis had broken their contractual agreement. Actually, Bill Davis Racing hasn't commented on the split at all as of this writing, and they aren't the ones who made the revealing statements to the press. Those statements came from a Dodge Motorsports spokesman. Speculation has it that Davis has been in talks with Toyota, The foreign automaker who is slated to enter their Toyota Tundra model in the Craftsman Truck Series in 2004. What I'd like to know is this. Why do Davis's talks with Toyota concerning the truck series cause problems with Dodge? Although Davis has Cup Series Dodge cars, and Chevrolets in the Busch Series, his web site doesn't divulge anything about any involvement with the Craftsman Truck Series. Of course, I have no idea what the specifics are in Bill Davis Racings contractual agreements with Dodge Motorsports. Apparently, Bill Davis Racing may not be aware of the agreements either, or they wouldn't have blatantly broken them or they just don't care. The fact that Davis is staying mum on the situation leads one to wonder it there's a legal battle brewing between the two entities. At any rate, Bill Davis Racing is still racing Dodges for the time being. They have several Busch and Cup Series cars in their shop and also tons of parts and supplies to keep them going. Dodge Motorsports has made it clear that from now on, Davis will not enjoy any support from the manufacturer in regards to cars, parts, technical data from the other Dodge teams, and Dodge wind tunnels use. During the Coca Cola 600 Kenny Wallace's' No. 23 Stacker II Dodge seemed to have blown a head gasket causing an oil and water mixture to come out of the radiator overflow putting the car out of the race. The same thing happened to Ward Burton/s No. 22 Caterpillar Dodge during the MBNA 400 at Dover. It seems that Davis is already having troubles with his Dodges!
