· Jethro Coffin built what is now Nantucket's oldest house. The house was a wedding present for his wife, Mary Gardener, and was built in 1686! It has survived over three-hundred years, despite being struck by lightning once. It is the only structure remaining from the 17th century English settlement upon Nantucket. It's available to tour.

· Glenaan Elliott Robbins, a direct descendant of Tristram Coffin, muses on her web site that it is perhaps serendipitous that the name "Coffin" has its roots in the Hebrew word for "a small basket" (or "a seller of baskets"), since she is renowned for creating beautiful lightship baskets (a traditional Nantucket craft), which are now available at her store in Nantucket, The Golden Basket.
