Sage Vyasa was born out of the union between Satyavati and Parashara. It is said that she secretly gave birth to him on an island in the Yamuna. Vyasa is today well known as the compiler of the Vedas and author of the Mahabharata, the epic in which both Satyavati and Vyasa played crucial roles.
