What does the Don Juan story have to do with the Myth of Romantic Love you wonder?

Don Juan represents Eros, erotic love. He is the great seducer, lover of many women, of all women! To Don Juan, looks and love do not matter. It's the fact that she is a woman he has not yet conquered that matters to Don Juan. He can only achieve arousal with each new woman, so he wants to seduce all women, but he cannot! So Don Juan is in torment, pressed to find a new conquest each night.

As Don Juan represents Eros, he also represents false passion. Many in our society associate this kind of erotic fervour with passion; but they are mistaken! This is false Romance. True passion is only found in Amor, true love and in Agape, spiritual love. This love is the true Romantic Love and it can be found with Tristan and Iseult.

Next time, we'll explore the Myth of Romantic Love further as we delve more deeply into the story of Tristan and Iseult.
