My Little Goddesses

As you might have read in a previous article, The Goddess Bast, cats were worshiped as demi-gods in ancient Egypt. Well, it's no different in my household.

Meet Kelsey and Chloe. These two sisters are a little over a year old now and have firmly placed themselves as goddesses in our home.

I had been wanting a kitten for a long time as I just adore cats, so my husband and I decided that the time was right to look for one. Then by chance, my sister told us of a local family who were looking for good homes for their litter of kitties.

One evening in August after supper we took a ride out to their farm where we were introduced to a bunch of adorable, healthy, playful kittens running around having the time of their lives. We felt that it would be best to take home two kittens so that they could be playmates and we also wanted females, so we each chose one. My husband chose a pretty grey one that we named Kelsey and I chose an adorable grey and white one we called Chloe. Then we took the sisters home and they took over.

Our goddess Kelsey is the quieter, more demure sister. She is often found sleeping in her special spot on the desk next to the computer during the day. But by dark she can be found in the bedroom sitting on the window ledge where she surveys her subjects. A devotee of Kelsey must stay on her toes and be quick to turn on the tap in the bathtub when the goddess wishes to drink! Or when the goddess wishes to play fetch! Indeed, our Lady Kelsey is a demanding but loving goddess. She gives her affections freely to those she chooses, to those who please her.

Chloe is our more active, more adventurous goddess. She clearly voices her commands to be stroked and petted. A devotee of Chloe must be ready to act promptly to the goddess's demands to be carried ceremoniously about or lifted so that she too may survey her holdings. But our Lady Chloe is a most loving goddess who bestows her affections generously upon all who meet her.

Though these two goddesses may be demanding in their own ways, they are a joy to worship for they bring so much love, happiness, and laughter into our lives. A devotee of Kelsey and Chloe knows that she is truly blessed when the goddesses bestow their divine purrs of contentment upon her. Surely, the Goddess Bast smiles down upon this household.
