meant to be enjoyed. I want Tracy's spirit of adventure to inspire them to bring the same sense of adventure to the challenges they encounter in their own lives. I do tackle social issues in my writing, more in my serious writings than my humorous series, but to some degree in everything I write. But I try to offer it up subtly, so it doesn't overshadow the story. And my Tracy Eaton series takes stabs at pomposity and pretension -- someone's gotta burst those bubbles.

SUITE: What time of day do you find you are most creative?

KRIS: LOL! That's a challenge I face daily. I'm a natural night person, but I choose to do more work during the day. Not only do I need evening time for teaching, I choose to spend some evenings with my husband. Over time I've made afternoons a pretty productive time. Now I'm trying to be one of those people who rolls out of bed, sips a little coffee and immediately begins to write. But I'm such a slow starter, I don't know if I'll ever manage it. Let's just say my creative time is a work in progress.

SUITE: I can’t believe it, another night person! I totally understand your struggles in this area. What sort of things do you do for fun?

KRIS: I'm so single-minded that my favorite outlet is reading mysteries! But I also like to cook, and I like some outdoor activities, such as hiking, swimming and skiing. I love to travel, too.

SUITE: Do you have a favorite author/authors?

KRIS: Oh, there are too many to name. Carolyn Hart and Marcia Muller have always been favorites, and lately I've been reading Peter Robinson. And of course, I love the works of Julie Herman and Jeff Marks, who tour with me as The RedHeaded League.

SUITE: I love those authors myself. A book or author that influenced you a lot? Personally or professionally?

KRIS: Dorothy Gilman's THE TIGHTROPE WALKER was a strong personal influence.

SUITE: Favorite mystery movie?

KRIS: THROW MAMA FROM THE TRAIN! I've probably watched it a hundred times. Is it any wonder I write humorous mysteries?

SUITE: Favorite mystery TV show> If you don't have a favorite mystery one, then some other type of TV show that is a favorite?

KRIS: My favorite TV show currently is The West Wing. And I have a real addiction going with the Food Channel.

SUITE: How do you feel about writing? And how does it feel when you are writing? Excited, frustrated, is it just business?
