I first started writing when I was in grade school SUITE: First start publishing?(short stories, books, etc) GAY: Have over a hundred articles published, but just started getting published fiction-wise three years ago. SUITE: Why do you write? Because I have to, because I love to. GAY: Do you have a day job? Writing SUITE: Do you have something you wish to accomplish with the things you write? i.e. enjoyment, challenging, fear.. GAY: Probably enjoyment, I hope the reader has a good ride. SUITE: Do you ever have a message? GAY: no SUITE: What time of day do you find you are most creative? GAY: I edit what I've written the day before first thing in the morning when I wake up. For me, late afternoon and evening are good for writing SUITE: What sort of things do you do for fun? GAY: Go to plays, have dinner with friends, travel, and, of course, reading good books. SUITE: Do you have a favorite author/authors? GAY: My favorite author is probably the one who has written whatever book I'm reading at the time. I love reading books by authors I've met. Can't wait to read the latest Lorie Ham! SUITE: Well thank you J A book or author that influenced you a lot? Personally or professionally. GAY: My mother was a writer so she had a great influence on me and gave me the belief that I could write, and that there was such a profession. Probably the book that influenced me the most was "Lorna Doone." It was the first book that I couldn't wait to get home from school to read. SUITE: Favorite mystery movie? GAY: The 40s movies--there are so many of them. SUITE:Favorite mystery TV show? If you don't have a favorite mystery one, then some other type of TV show that is a favorite. GAY: "Columbo" and "Murder She Wrote" stand out in my mind, but I've enjoyed them all. SUITE: How do you feel about writing? GAY: It's what I like to do the most. SUITE: And how does it feel when you are writing? Excited, frustrated, is it just business? GAY: When I'm writing I'm not conscious of anything, particularly time. I'm in the story and living with those people, wherever they are, very much like reading a good book
