Interview with well known mystery author, Joan Hess

about writing is most important to you?

JOAN: Cashing the advances

SUITE: Advice to an unpublished writer?

JOAN: Just the usual: read like a demon, have an idea where you're going, persevere, and don't sweat every word. Once you've finished a manuscript, tidied it up, and perhaps let a trusted friend read it, send it off, and start the next one. Don't spend ten years trying to get your firstborn published. Take into consideration what you learned from writing the first/second/third/tenth one. If you're good, you most likely will get published sooner or later. Writer's conferences rather than fan conventions are more likely to provide useful contacts.

SUITE: Anything that you would like to add??

JOAN: Don't kill a cat unless you can stand the heat.
