Denise Dietz, FOOTPRINTS IN BUTTERFootprints in Butter Denise Dietz Delphi, Sept. 1999 Hardcover $21.95 227 pp ISBN 0-966-33972-X Adult language Ingrid Beaumont is an independent, capable, middle-aged woman whose closest companion is a big dog named Hitchcock. In Footprints in Butter, Wylie Jamestone, a famous painter and a former schoolmate of Ingrid's, is murdered the day after a high school reunion dance where he took pleasure in angering his old classmates. Even Ingrid had a motive, but was seen on TV at a Broncos game at the time of the murder. Wylie has left her a clue which refers to a treasure hunt and involves elephant jokes, so she sets off to track down the killer against her own better judgment. Ingrid is unlike any other amateur sleuth I've ever read. She always says what's on her mind and is a sassy, wisecracking, bold lady very much in your face and self confident. If you like your ladies tame and quiet, you won't care for Ingrid. However, if you prefer something a little sassier Footprints in Butter may be for you.
