SUITE: What time of day do you find you are most creative?
JANET: At night, when I should be sleeping. That's when I get my best ideas. Then I get up early and head for the computer to write them down before I forget them.
SUITE: Finally, another night person. I was beginning to think all other writers in the world were morning people. What sort of things do you do for fun?
JANET: I do genealogy, and have taught an adult ed. Class on it for 10 years. A lot of the ideas for my historicals come from my genealogical research. Dunnottar is based on my husband, Ivan's Keith lineage. House Call to the Past (my time travel) is based on the life of Maria Hallett, my 13 times great-aunt. I am also very active in our church, sometimes as pianist or organist, and I enjoy getting together with other writers. I live in Grand Forks, ND, and we have 9 published authors in town. We have many "Meet the Author" events, and they are always fun. I am also on a couple of chats on the internet, which are delightful.
SUITE: Do you have a favorite author/authors?
JANET: There are so many new ones coming on the scene who are really talented. Right now I am reading Foreign Body, a mystery by Kathleen Taylor. I just finished Millie Criswell's What To Do About Annie; it was hilarious.
SUITE: A book or author who has influenced you a lot? Personally or professionally.
JANET: I guess it would have to be Mary Higgins Clark in her Anastasia Syndrome. The main characters were Halletts from England. Hallett was my maiden name. It enabled us to become (infrequent) pen pals, and her success makes me believe it could happen to me or anyone else.
SUITE: Favorite mystery movie?
JANET: I almost never go to the movies.
SUITE: Favorite TV mystery show? If you do not have a favorite mystery one, then some type of TV show is a favorite?
JANET: I love Diagnosis Murder with Dick Van Dyke, especially when he dances! And I NEVER miss Allie McBeal.
SUITE: I love Diagnosis myself. How do you feel about writing? And how do you feel
