Alex Masters has had a hard life. She ran away from an abusive home and found herself on the street working as a prostitute. When a crime boss takes a liking to her and decides to move her from his bed to a spare room, her life is changed forever. After his arrest he sets her up in a nice condo and all the money she needs to start a new life on the straight and narrow. She's doing well working at a secretarial school until she stumbles into the middle of a bank robbery. Things are made more complicated when she recognizes the robbers and is taken hostage.

The police rescue her but this is not the end of her troubles as she later finds herself running not only from the bank robbers, but the police. The tension builds as she begins to suspect that one of the officers on the case is on the take, and one of the robbers is murdered and she becomes the chief suspect. Alex ends up trusting the wrong people and almost ends up dead before this is resolved.

This book drew me in as I went along, and made me anxious for the ending as the suspense intensified. This was an enjoyable first book and I look forward to watching this writer grow.
