Buried In Baltimore is the second mystery featuring interior designer Toni Credella and a book filled with much more than just a mystery. This book reminds us of things that many of us would rather forget and leave to someone else to do something about. Perhaps this reminder will push us to be more understanding and compassionate ourselves about the less fortunate, the abused and the forgotten. Toni is not only dyslexic, but was an abused wife who shot her police officer husband to save her own life. Because of her own life experiences, she is a woman filled with compassion for the homeless and those in pain.
Toni is rehabbing a house in the slums of South Baltimore and finds herself becoming friends with the homeless people that live around her, including an elderly woman named Alice. After turning Alice away one night because her sister was there after a fight with her husband, Toni feels guilty when Alice is found dead. Her guilt leads her to try and find Alice's killer, while taking on the new job of working for a private investigator as an apprentice.
Amidst the danger and suspense of this socially conscious mystery, we learn more about Toni's personal struggles of living a normal life with dyslexia, trying to have a normal relationship with a man after her abusive husband, and putting together a brand new life. It's easy to cheer for this woman as she forges ahead with courage in pursuit of justice and a new beginning as a private investigator.
If you want a book to not only enjoy, but to make you think, pick up Buried In Baltimore.
