Another murder occurs too close for comfort and Mary finds herself looking for a safe place to stay. She is shaken when an attempt is made on her life and someone is seriously hurt trying to protect her. As she heads to the safety of her mother's home, she finds yet another victim of whatever scam is centered on the restaurant. O'Connor and Mary, working together, go back to the scene of the murder--the restaurant--to find the missing clues and, in the process, put both of their lives in danger.

Beat Until Stiff is an engrossing mystery with intriguing, likable characters and lots of suspects. The tension that builds up between Mary Ryan and O'Connor is believable and engrossing. The author, Claire M. Johnson, actually worked as a pastry chef for eight years and it shows in the details. Fingers crossed that this becomes a series!
