Laurien Berenson's series is not as intense as Conant's or Benjamin's series. Her lead character, Melanie Travis, is a teacher and the single mother of a five-year-old son, Davy, living in Connecticut. She is the owner/trainer of Faith, a standard poodle. Her aunt, Peg, Faith's breeder and all around nosy busybody is the catalyst in the first book, A Pedigree to Die For, in which Peg's husband, Max, dies unexpectantly. His champion poodle is missing and Aunt Peg calls in Melanie to investigate. The series is up to seven books. The most recent book is Unleashed.
