My husband weighs close to this weight and we have no trouble accomodating him. It is slightly cramped for him on airplanes and we had to get a king-sized bed because I could not get him to understand that just because he was bigger that me didn't mean that he got more than half of the bed. So you can see that there are some problems, but one seventh of a ton sounds much more romantic that 286 pounds.

Wolfe only takes on cases when he feels in the mood (and he is very moody because of his obsessive/compulsive behavior) or when it appears that the bank account is getting low. Wolfe maintains a rather rich lifestyle. Besides Archie, he has a full-time live-in chef named Fritz Brenner. Fritz's meals are brilliant and from time to time Wolfe joins him in the kitchen to assist in the gourmet preparations and if any component of the meal is incorrect, Wolfe knows about it immediately. Wolfe takes his food very seriously and allows no talk of cases during the meals. I don't know when Fritz sleeps because he always seems to be available, whenever Archie is out, to answer the telephone or door or to provide beer for Wolfe during an interview in the office, often at very late hours. (When Fritz sleeps is one of those imponderables that just has to be accepted and not dissected.)

The schedule Wolfe adheres to is extremely rigid. He rises at the same time everyday and his breakfast is brought to him in his room by Fritz (Archie usually eats breakfast in the kitchen). At 9 a.m. he takes the elevator to the glass roofed top floor and for two hours, until 11 a.m., indulges himself in his second costly obsesssion, his orchids, with his caretaker of the orchids, Theodore Horstmann. Only the most major of crises will bring Wolfe out of the plant room or allow Archie in. He returns there at 4 p.m. and stays until 6 p.m. Wolfe will not see clients (or even police officers) during his orchid hours. His meal times are also rigid and he brooks no interruption.

As earlier stated, Wolfe appears only to take cases when money is getting low. Wolfe charges quite a bit for his services, and is usually paid with gratitude, but many clients seek him out because his reputation is far and well known. Again, even with clients that he needs, he will see them only around his other activities. It is not unusual for him to instruct Archie to make appointments for midnight.
