I am also a bead artist and I don't watch much television (usually I put in a video tape of a movie I love and know the dialog word for word if I need TV noise) so I put the tapes into my player in the bedroom and I read and bead. When I crochet I can read a traditional book with printed words while I am crocheting, but not with the beading (I like the really intricate seed bead projects).
In the links I have provided several sources for the purchase or rental of books on tape. Sometimes the rentals cost almost as much as the purchase price. If you donate your used tapes to the library you can use that as a charitable tax deduction. There are also several Internet sites which deal in audio book exchanges and I have also icluded some of these in the links.
I love audio books and can't wait 'til they come out in "paperback" (i.e., they drop the prices somewhat). So here we are in the '90s and music is a visual experience and reading is an audio experience.
There is also a new reading media called e-books. Some of these are available as complete books on the Internet and some must be ordered and come on a disc. I am not yet sure how to read these because I like to be lying in bed when I read. I guess I'll have to get a projection screen for my computer and shine these books on the ceiling. One wonders what more technology awaits us. Perhaps the next wave will be to have the computer read to us (although that won't be much good in the car). Who knows?
