Chupacabra in the News© Florence Cardinal
A couple of weeks ago, I wrote an article entitled What on Earth is the Chupacabra? In it I described these strange creatures and spoke of some reported incidents.
Since that time I've unearthed a couple more interesting news items about these weird beasts. The first item is from the news assistant, Ananova. The item reports that, on October 10, in Chihuahua, Mexico, Parra Gonzalez heard his dogs kicking up a fuss out in the fields. First they were howling, then they were running as though terrified. Gonzaliz thought the dogs were probably running from one of the natural predators that abounded in the area, so he didn't bother going out to check. Later in the day, he discovered twelve sheep and one pig, all dead, all drained of blood, with mysterious puncture wounds in their necks. Another farmer found thirty-five of his sheep dead and drained of blood. On October 25, a neighboring farmer found sixteen dead sheep and another fourteen so badly injured they had to be destroyed. All had suffered from loss of most of their blood through the same mysterious neck wounds. Although some officials have laid the deaths of these sixty to seventy sheep at the feet of predators like wolves, coyotes, foxes and dogs, the attacks resemble the attacks rumored to be made by the goat-suckers or Chupacabra that have spreads throughout Latin America and other parts of the Americas. The second story, from Jeff Rense. is datelined November 21 of this year. Because I am a cat lover, this story broke my heart. It comes from Chile, and reports that at least six families in the town of Topopila will no longer be able to love their pets. Residents awoke to find that, sometime during the night, something had drained the blood from six cats, leaving them dead in the yards and on the street. Stranger still, the cats were all soaking wet. All six cats had vampire-like puncture marks on their necks, again reminiscent of the wounds inflicted by the legendary Chupacabra. The numerous dogs that roam the streets of the town made not a sound, although the cars were wailing and crying like they were in a catfight to end all cat fights. One resident remarked that, although she was accustomed to the racket made by the many cats, this time the noise was different, almost desperate, and resembled the crying of small children. She admits that, although the nose kept her awake, she was afraid to go see what was going on.
