Also, the climactic ascension of Old Deuteronomy and Grizabella up to cat heaven is one of the most spectacular theatrical effects ever created. (It is from here that Webber went on to create another spectacle in Starlight Express).

“Cats” then, is truly the culmination of Elliot’s poetry, Webber’s music, Nunn’s theatrical expertise and the visually appealing choreography of Gillian Lynn along with all those who create make-up, costumes and sets for the theatre world.

Sadly, “Cats” had it’s final performance on September 10, 2000.
