A second Annie musical, Annie Warbucks, opened at the Variety Arts Theatre on August 9, 1993. The new story revolved around Daddy Warbuck's dilemma to find a mother for Annie or risk losing her forever. This Annie installment officially closed in 1999. The world was not left without their beloved Annie, however as Disney debuted their film version of Annie on television in 1999.
The Annie phenomenon has brought us many wonderful songs composed by Charles Strouse. Favorite, well-known tunes include Tomorrow, Hard Knock Life, Maybe, Never Fully Dressed without a smile, I think I'm gonna like it here and my personal favorite (as sung by Carol Burnette in the original movie version), Little Girls. Annie's spunky, likable character, the plight of a delightful orphan, coupled with the varied ballads and song and dance chorus numbers will delight families for generations to come from school productions to future productions of new Orphan Annie stories.
