Wilson's favorite playwright is Anton Chekhov. On October 17, 2005, Broadway's Virginia Theatre will be renamed for August Wilson, the first African American to have such an honor. Without Wilson's contribution to the American theatre, the world might never have experienced the history of racism and the African American experience in such a way as through the characters that Wilson brought to life. But, racism isn't all that Wilson's plays are about. They're about families, people, dreams and realities. In an interview before his death, August Wilson told one reporter that his daughter, Azula is also writing her own plays. Who knows - she may be just the one to continue the legacy of August Wilson.
