ON SECOND AVENUE (closes April 10/2005)

This musical follows the history of Yiddish Theatre in revue form. It opened on February 27/2005.

THE CHOCOLATE SOLDIER (closes April 10/2005)

Opening March 29/2005, this operetta opened at the 45th St. Theatre and continues it's run until the second week of April. This production has the cast reading from their scripts and is staged in concert style.

And what's coming in the next few weeks:

SWEET CHARITY (opening April 11/2005)

Due to the recent injury of leading lady Christina Applegate, Sweet Charity will open as planned, but her understudy will play the role of Charity Hope Valentine for preview week. SWEET CHARITY will play at the Al Hirschfeld theatre.

TRIBUTE (opens April 12/2005)

A show in cabaret style, Barbara Cook will sing songs from her 50 year career. TRIBUTE will run at the Cafe Carlyle until April 30/2005.

WHEN A LADY LOVES (opens April 12/2005)

Another cabaret style show, this one runs until May 28/2005 at the Oak Room at the Algonquin Hotel on west 44th. Featuring the jazzy sounds of Hoagy Carmichael, Cole Porter, the Gershwins and many others, the show stars Karen Akers.

THE BAKER'S WIFE (opens April 17/2005)

Not actually playing on Broadway, this musical opens at Paper Mill in New Jersey. It is written by Stephen Schwartz and Joseph Stein and closes May 15/2005.

MAN OF LA MANCHA (opens April 15/2005)

Another revival, this musical plays at the Christ Church Theatre in Brooklyn and is based on Don Quixote.

THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE (opens May 2/2005)

Playing at Circle in the Square with previews beginning April 15, this new musical is moving to Broadway.

RAPUNZEL (opens April 16/2005)

A musical for children, this piece opens at the Manhattan Children's Theatre and runs until May 22/2005.

CAPTAIN LOUIE (opens May 8/2005)

A family musical by Stephen Schwartz about Louie, a child who is new to the neighborhood and looking for friends. This magical adventure runs until June 12/2005 at the York Theatre.

As you can see, there's a lot of great musicals of varying styles playing now and opening soon. There'a always something happening in New York!
