HELP! I got the part!

KEEP HONING YOUR CRAFT

Don't let your voice or your body go soft. Do your vocal exercises daily to keep your voice at its optimum performance level and to avoid injury from overuse. Stretch and warm up your body before you even get to rehearsals so that you are loose and relaxed for long days on your feet.

LISTEN TO DIRECTION

Many a newbie gets so excited about a role that he/she overzealously begins to make directorial decisions regarding the character. Listen to your director and follow through with what you are being told to do. If you have questions, don't hold up the rehearsal if it's something you can discuss privately. Being able to take direction is extremely important in this business, more than any other.

BUILD GOOD WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

This is the grown up version of "get along with others". Nobody likes working with someone who's arrogant or cocky. No matter what happens, resist the urge to gossip and get caught up in confrontational relationships with those involved with the production. You don't want a reputation of being "difficult". You want casting directors to hear good feedback about you and have them calling your agent to work with you again - not making mental notes about what a pain you are to work with.

THERE ARE NO SMALL PARTS - JUST SMALL ACTORS

If your first role in a professional production is smaller than what you had hoped for, don't be discouraged. Remember - you still got a part and hundreds of other hopefuls did not.

This saying is truer than true - give 100% (your all) to whatever part you aquire. The finished production needs every single element to be a success from the performers to the behind-the-scenes personnel to the costumes and sets. Don't be the weak link in your production.

ABOVE ALL - ENJOY THE RIDE

You WILL be nervous.

You WILL likely make mistakes.

You WILL have to be flexible and adapt.

But,

you WILL have the time of your life if your dream is to perform.

Now - go get 'em!
